About Our City

The City of Prairie View is located on US Highway 290, 45 miles west of the greater Houston, Texas metropolitan area and 105 miles east of the state capitol in Austin, Texas.  Both the business exchange and the freeway running through give rapid and smooth access to the city and its neighboring principalities.  

 

Prairie View is the proud home of the second oldest public institution of higher learning in the state of Texas,  Prairie View A&M University. This HBCU is designated an Institution of the First Class and home to the phenomenal Panthers!  The university is the largest employer in Waller County with more than 5,000 diverse employees from all parts of the world community.

Among the increasing number of businesses, the city is also home of an international grade cricket complex which boasts 14 fields of play - the largest in the USA - which welcomes all categories of teams.
